Book: Emily's Magic Words

I bought this book as part of the reading material for Project Manners & Project I Love Reading.
AJ loves this book. It is written specifically for young children from the age of 3 to 5 years old. For more details do visit this website: http://www.emilypost.com/magic_words/index.htm

AJ loved it so much that he carried this book with him almost all the time. There was one incident in which AJ caught the "pet pet" bug. He will answer requests and instructions with "Pet Pet" which irritates me and besides it is not a good manner. So I told him Emily does not approve of the words "pet pet". To which he answered, "Emily said cannot say "pet pet" ho? Can say "mm - mm" or not? " I didn't expect him to come out with such response. Anyway, no "pet pet" so far. Will still keep my eyes on this one..

Excuse Me...

AJ was in a supermarket with his aunt and grandmother the other day when a lady and her trolley was blocking his way. By the way, AJ is a 2.5 years old boy. "Excuse Me..." he said at the top of his voice and waited. The lady got startled and glanced behind. There's no one there. Then she glanced down and saw a smiling AJ there. Her response was "Oh... pandainya!" (translated as: Oh.. so smart) AJ then continued to happilly explore the supermarket aisle.

The "Excuse Me" Game
AJ & I played Excuse Me game when he was about 1.5 years old. When he walks around the house, I will stand in front of him and encourage him to say Excuse Me... with every Excuse Me the path is unblocked. Then after a while, Excuse Me comes natural to him.. Next will be to encourage him to say Thank you. You can block the path or door or tv or the computer. But not so often that it will irritate the kids..

In the beginning

God created the world and once the world is completed, he created man and woman... Adam & Eve

Verses from Genesis 1
Genesis 1:26 And God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.'

Genesis 1:27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them; and God said unto them: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.'

The Great Expectations
Man was created to take care of God's creation and that includes himself, his other half and his family. That's a great responsibility! Where to start?

It goes back to the basic unit that we have, a Happy Family: Father, Mother and children. At times there are family unit that does not fit the Father - Mother - Children pattern, but be sure to compensate the missing part with the people around, for example extended family members, family friends or teachers. A family has the responsibility to shape personality.

I want a happy family and I want to raise good men... I will start with my two sons and I am willing to learn the ropes to raise good men so that I can have good men to take care of my future daughter-in-laws, their family, the next generations and me & my husband :)

I hope this blog will be beneficial to all who reads it. I'd love to learn what works, try it and share the experience here... till the next entry...
